From Lusaka to RightsCon Continues

The RightsCon Continues Summit comes after the postponement of RightsCon 2026 in Lusaka, Zambia, which was scheduled to take place from May 5–8, 2026. The postponement interrupted plans for a major global gathering on digital rights, technology and human rights in Africa. RightsCon Continues now provides an online space for the digital-rights community to reconnect, continue important conversations and strengthen collaboration around resilience, movement building and the protection of human rights in the digital age.

 

September 22, 2026 — The online RightsCon Continues Summit officially opens today, bringing together digital-rights advocates, civil society organizations, technologists, researchers and communities from around the world for two days of discussions on some of the most pressing challenges facing digital rights.

 

Taking place online from September 22–23, 2026, the summit features more than 50 sessions, meetups and fireside chats across 24 hours of programming. Organizers have highlighted resilience, cross-sector collaboration and movement building as key themes of the event.

 

The summit comes at a time when technology, human rights and democratic participation are increasingly interconnected. Digital platforms have become important spaces for civic engagement, communication, information sharing and organizing, while also raising critical questions about privacy, freedom of expression, online safety and access to information.

 

According to the RightsCon team, the summit provides an opportunity for communities working across these issues to exchange experiences, discuss emerging challenges and identify opportunities for collaboration.
